How to Get Rid of Vapors Tongue

Vaping all the time can be fun, but be wary of the infamous vapors tongue. I’ve had a lot of readers reach out to me and ask how, once they have it, to get rid of it. First let’s get into what vapors tongue is.

What is vapors tongue?

Vapors tongue is when the wonderful flavors you were experiencing while vaping greatly reduce as if out of nowhere. It feels like your ability to taste flavors are gone! If you have vapors tongue, you’re not alone. The majority of vapors get this condition from time to time, and it can last anywhere from 1 to 3 days.

This happens after vaping a whole lot for an extended period of time, and I don’t blame you if its from the free samples you got at Basically what you got is called olfactory exhaustion. Olfactory exhaustion is defined as “temporary, normal inability to distinguish a particular odor after a prolonged exposure to that airborne compound.”

This means in fact, vapors tongue should be called “vapors nose” instead, as the problem lies not with the mouth but with the nose.

How do you fix vapors tongue (vapors nose)?

Potential solutions

  • Switch flavors
  • Continue vaping
  • Vaping unflavored e-liquid
  • Oral hygiene
  • Stop vaping

There are a few “solutions” that have been proposed for vapors tongue. One of these solutions is switching flavors to another e-liquid. However, most vapors frustratingly report that they still can’t taste flavor of the new e-liquid.

Some vapors just try to push through it as a solution. Just keep on vaping until the flavor comes back. Personally, I don’t recommend this, but to each their own.

Another solution, if you can’t stop vaping, is to vape unflavored e-liquids. I mean you might as well since you can’t taste anything during this period anyway.

Oral hygiene slightly helps vapor tongue. Try brushing your teeth for once, or gurgle some Listerine. Your mouth and nose need some love at this time.

The best and only solution to surely stop vapors tongue (even though you may not want to hear it) is to stop vaping for awhile. Vapors tongue is your body’s way of saying it is exhausted and you’ve overdone it a little. Stopping vaping, or limiting it to as little as possible, should cure the condition in a few short days.
